The signatories of the agreement

The Semex Alliance, whose head office is located in Guelph, Ontario, is a partnership owned by four Canadian A.I. units, CIAQ, Gencor, Eastern Breeders Inc. (EBI) and Westgen. The Semex Alliance is focused on global leadership in the livestock genetics marketplace. It develops and markets high-quality genetic technologies, products and services that benefit cattle producers worldwide while creating value for its owners. TSA also markets bovine semen in more than 70 countries all across the five continents and offers training to the users of its products.

The Centre d’insémination artificielle du Québec (CIAQ) is an organisation located at Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, that has a 54-year history to its name. In 1999, it was purchased by the Québec dairy and beef producers grouped in the Fédération des producteurs de lait du Québec (dairy producers), the Conseil québécois des races laitières inc. (breed associations) and the Conseil provincial des cercles d’amélioration du bétail inc. (breeding clubs). It is the only bovine semen production unit in Québec and it houses nearly 800 sires. CIAQ operates an important young sire testing program and offers adapted services to Québec and Nova Scotia breeders, thus favouring the genetic improvement of dairy and beef herds. CIAQ owns 45 % of The Semex Alliance shares.

Comestar Holstein is an important dairy operation with a reputation extending beyond Québec boundaries for having developed over the years state-of-the-art genetics. Located at Victoriaville, Ferme Comestar owns nearly 600 head of Holstein cattle. Its philosophy is oriented towards logic and balanced breeding allowing to develop very high genetic potential cow families. Comestar Laurie Sheik (VG-88 16*), an internationally recognised cow thanks to the exceptional quality of her male and female progeny, is with her family the heart of the Comestar herd. Several very popular A.I. sires such as Lheros, Lee, Outside, Leader and Stormatic, who is presently the top LPI bull in Canada, come from that family. Comestar Holstein’s breeding program always includes several recognised cow families.
